Achievements

Compilation of 250 locations for Parks, Gardens and Designed Landscapes within the Nidderdale AONB.

Lodging of the above database with the Parks and Gardens UK national database, NYCC Heritage Environment Record, the NYCC Record Office and Harrogate Borough Council (Nidderdale AONB).

Events

Heritage walks:

  • Around Nutwith Cote
  • Studley Park
  • Bewerley and Pateley Bridge, to review the ‘The Victorian Gardens of Pateley Bridge’
  • ‘Fountains to Markenfield historic walk’.

Other events etc:

  • Study day for Nidderdale AONB events programme on “The Aislabie Gardens”, linking Studley Park and Hackfall.
  • Study day for the Yorkshire Gardens Trust events programme on “The Victorian Gardens of Pateley Bridge”.
  • Talks to local history societies and other interested organisations on the Parks and Gardens heritage of the local area.
  • Exhibitions of our material at the NYCC and Nidderdale AONB Heritage Days in Northallerton, Fountains Abbey, villages in Nidderdale and at the Nidderdale Show.

Records and Documentation

Our records and documentation are available for study by arrangement and include site visit reports, research documents, historic and recent photographs and related ephemera. (Use the ‘Contact Us’ button at the left of this page).

In depth photographic surveys have been undertaken as separate projects at:

  • Weston Hall estate, 2007
  • Grantley Hall estate, 2010

These are available for study but are not in the public domain.

Representation

We are represented on the AONB Heritage Steering Group for Harrogate Borough Council.
